Kentriki Odos, subsidiary of GEK TERNA Group announces that, as of today, Friday, 24 of July, at 2:30 p.m., the entire 182.1 km of the modern and safe E65 motorway has been fully opened to traffic.

The inauguration of the remaining 46 km northern section of the E65, from the Kalambaka Interchange to the Egnatia Interchange, took place yesterday in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, members of the government, and representatives of local authorities. As of today, the motorway is fully operational, extending from its junction with the PATHE motorway at km206.5 (the southern beginning of E65) to the Egnatia Interchange near Grevena.

Constructed by TERNA, E65 provides the capacity of a modern motorway with two traffic lanes in each direction plus an Emergency Lane. Built entirely along a new alignment, it connects Eastern and Western Greece. Its completion transforms road transport to Western Thessaly and Western Macedonia, boosting trade, tourism, and agricultural production.

E65 also links the Port of Igoumenitsa—Greece’s gateway to Central Europe—with the Port of Volos, facilitating international passenger and freight transport between Greece and Western and Central Europe. In addition, the total travel time from the Port of Piraeus to the Western Balkans is reduced by approximately two hours.

Furthermore, the journey from Lamia to Egnatia Motorway now takes just 1 hour and 45 minutes. Travel time from Athens to Grevena and Athens to Metsovo has been reduced to just 4 hours, while Kastoria and Kozani can now be reached from Athens in approximately 4.5 hours.

E65 motorway will offer the high-standard road safety and customer services provided by Central Greece Motorway, including:

Technical Features of the 182.1 km E65 Motorway

• 14 interchanges and 4 half-interchanges
• 5 twin tunnels, including the 3 km-long T2 Tunnel (Othrys Mountain Range, Moschokaria)
• 31 bridges, including the 595 m-long Pineios Bridge
• 114 overpasses and underpasses
• 8 parking and rest areas (both directions), including one serving traffic towards Egnatia and one towards Lamia
• 4 Operations & Maintenance Centers
• 1 Traffic Management Center
• 4 Tunnel Control Centers
• 3 Traffic Police buildings and 1 Fire Service building
• 4 Motorist Service Areas (MSAs): Lianokladi, Sofades, Raxa, and Agiofyllo. At present, only the Lianokladi and Sofades MSAs are operational.
• 1 Customer Service Point (Trikala Main Toll Station, Lamia-bound direction)
• 4 main toll plazas and 5 side toll stations
