With a presence in the energy sector since the mid-1990s, GEK TERNA Group plays a central role in both the Renewable Energy sector and the thermal energy production sector.

GEK TERNA Group has been a leader in the energy sector for decades. Additionally, through its subsidiary HERON, GEK TERNA Group holds a strong position not only in electricity generation but also in the trading of electricity and natural gas, offering innovative and competitive solutions to thousands of households and businesses. It is worth noting that GEK TERNA was the first private group to implement an investment for the development of a natural gas-fired power generation unit in Greece (HERON I – capacity 147 MW), whose construction began in 2002 and was completed in 2004.

In the field of thermal energy, GEK TERNA has also developed, in collaboration with Motor Oil, a new natural gas-fired power generation unit in Komotini. The new state- of-the-art Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Station is an investment of 375 million euros, constructed by TERNA S.A., GEK TERNA’s construction arm, and has an installed capacity of 877 MW. The commercial operation of the unit, which has now entered trial operation, is scheduled to begin soon.

Furthermore, through its strategic partnership with MASDAR, GEK TERNA Group continues to lead in the field of clean energy production and storage, having secured its participation in a series of major investments in promising sectors such as pumped storage projects and offshore wind farms.
