TERNA declared as Contractor for €1B Rail Projects in Romania
GEK TERNA (Bloomberg: GEKTERNA GA / RIC: HRMr.AT) has announced that its construction subsidiary, TERNA, has been declared by the National Railway Company of Romania (CFR) as the contractor for two major railway projects with a total budget of approximately €1 billion.
The construction arm of GEK TERNA Group secured the contracts as part of a joint venture with Alstom Romania, in which it holds a majority stake of up to 74%.
The scope of work involves the design and comprehensive rehabilitation of two sections within the Craiova-Drobeta Turnu Severin-Caransebeș railway network:
•Craiova–Filiași (Lot 1), with a budget of €543.4 million
•Filiași-Igiroasa (Lot 2), with a budget of €449.2 million
These two segments comprise the Craiova-Igiroasa line, spanning a total length of 83 kilometers, for which TERNA will undertake the full design and restoration.
TERNA’s participation in the consortium is set at 69% for Lot 1 and 74% for Lot 2. According to the contract terms, the duration for the completion of technical studies is set at 12 months, followed by a construction period of 36 months.
The TERNA-Alstom Romania partnership was previously named the provisional lowest bidder for these projects in the summer of 2025.
