GEK TERNA Group, with the aim of providing all stakeholders with correct and transparent information on the value it creates across the entire range of its activities, conduct a special study, following the internationally recognized methodology of the “input-output model”, to determine the Social and Economic impact of its activities in Greece. The results of the relevant studies confirm the responsible attitude and contribution of GEK TERNA Group to the national economy and employment over time, while at the same time strengthening the collective efforts to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goal 8 on economic growth.

Dialogue with stakeholders

The Group, understanding the expectations of its stakeholders and wishing to respond to them, promotes the creation of mutual trust and confidence.

Consultation with the different stakeholder groups is carried out in a consistent and transparent manner in order to address the current challenges related to Sustainable Development. Through this communication, the Group’s understanding of important environmental and social issues is enhanced, which helps to successfully set the right priorities for the ESG strategy.

The Group identifies and prioritises its stakeholders according to their degree of influence and impact on the Group’s operations and vice versa.

GEK TERNA Group actively supports the local and wider society through initiatives and actions that contribute to social resilience and prosperity. Its strategic objective is to establish long-term relationships with residents and stakeholders in the areas where it operates, based on trust and mutual benefit. To this end, it combines its initiatives with the needs of the area concerned and aims for an open dialogue with stakeholders. The Group improves the daily life of local communities, supports the younger generation, contributes to the care of socially vulnerable groups and strengthens the local economy and entrepreneurship, while always being present in response to crises and emergencies.

The social support programme implemented by the Group in 2023 amounted to 11.6 million euros, reflecting the organisation’s commitment to the principles of Sustainable Development, to strengthen its business activities, to meet the needs of its stakeholders and to defend the well-being of local communities.

Supporting the new generation of scientists, the “Resourceful Generation” arrow right

Through an integrated and targeted set of actions entitled “Engineering Generation”, GEK TERNA Group actively supports innovation, education and training, offering resources, knowledge, skills and tools to support a new generation of engineers who will shape the future.

Prominent among the relevant actions of the “Engineering Generation” Programme is the exclusive sponsorship of GEK TERNA Group to the National Technical University of Athens for the creation of the first Professional Interdepartmental Master of Science (MSc) Degree with the equivalent of a Master of Science (MSc) degree and the title “Infrastructure and Construction Project Management” (EDPMS-DEYK). The Postgraduate Programme by the School of Civil Engineering of NTUA, in partnership with the School of Mechanical Engineering of NTUA and the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of NTUA. The Postgraduate Programme is fully funded by GEK TERNA Group for a total amount of half a million euros for five years in principle.

In addition, the “Ingenious Generation” Program in 2023 supported university and school innovation teams such as. gr” based in Patras, Greek Champion 2023 and the Robotics Team NROBOGEN based in Amphilochia.

A very important part of the Group’s social contribution concerns the free construction of infrastructure projects locally in all regions of the country where it operates, as well as the support of vulnerable social groups, sports and cultural clubs, etc. through numerous sponsorship programmes.

ΣΤΗΡΙΞΗ ΤΟΠΙΚΩΝ ΚΟΙΝΩΝΙΩΝ
Conversion of the 115 Battle Wing into a green aviation facility arrow right

With the initiative and donation of GEK TERNA Group, the conversion of the 115 Battle Wing in Souda to a “green” facility, i.e. a near Zero Carbon Emissions Airport, was completed in 2023 and is the first green aviation facility with this high degree of clean energy and autonomy worldwide.

All of the facility’s electricity needs are now covered by 100% by Renewable Energy Sources (Net Zero Energy Airport), utilizing a photovoltaic power generation system connected to a lithium-ion battery energy storage system. At the same time, an “intelligent” Energy Management System was developed to ensure the uninterrupted and seamless management of the energy produced and consumed.

Reconstruction and rehabilitation of affected areas arrow right

As part of the major effort for the reconstruction of the areas affected by the summer fires of 2023, the Group was awarded the contract for the rehabilitation of the Mandra-Magoula area, undertaking the financing of the design and execution of erosion control works, amounting to EUR 1 million.

Moreover, from the very first moment that the devastating cyclone Daniel broke out in Thessaly, GEK TERNA Group, showing increased reflexes, rushed to the side of the local community, providing personnel and machinery from the neighbouring TERNA construction sites in the wider region. The provision of assistance to the affected areas and in particular to the municipalities of Karditsa, Mouzaki, Domokos, Sofadon, Meteora, Trikala, Argithea and Metsovo, included water pumping operations in flooded houses and the evacuation of residents, restoration of road sections, cleaning of streams and ditches, loading and transport of dead animals from stables and fields, cleaning of debris on roads.
